This is a service not many people offer within the Occupational Therapy Field, that is mentoring. It is about mentoring new students into the transition of everyday work and dealing with the expectations, the new identity and the new role. Not everybody finds it easy. Not everybody slips into a role that suddenly they have to wear and take on board.
Life events come up for all of us. I know when I was studying for O.T. and my first observation was for two weeks. At the same time my own mother was dying it created a distortion within myself as my loyalty was towards my Mum.
These situations occur and how we navigate through or around them has a huge impact on whether we get through the studying, the enormity of what appears huge and integrate ourselves into a system that has expectations and professional forms of behavior.
